Can’t believe it. Belief is coming in waves that this thing is finally out into the world and I am filled with joy and excitement and fulfillment.
Had the book release party (one of the aforementioned waves of realization) which went splendidly—had everyone dress as pretentiously as possible (think Bradley Uppercrust III from An Extremely Goofy Movie) to take intellectual pictures which I thought was cool and sick.
I also am hitting TikTok and Reels hard, which is something I’ve planned to do—it’s only proiving as difficult as the time investment. Overall, I just can’t believe I finally got this thing out there, ya know? I don’t want this blug post to be a cycle of “ohmygodthisthingisoutthereandicantbelieveit” because I’m sure no one really wants to go out of their way to read it, but like…it is out, and I can’t believe it, so what can you do?
The funny thing too is that I meant to write this a while ago because the book has actually been out for almost two weeks now. But between planning the party and working and making all the content and taking a bit of a break, it’s been a bit difficult to make the time. And now this feels like a bit of a stinker of a blug. Like an unnecessary sequel or something. But I’m sure I’ll find my stride eventually.
But aren’t all creative works unnecessary in a way? We’d live without them. Still, regardless of quality, I’d rather have the world we have now with surely thousands of blogs and paintings and sculptures and poems and songs and books being put out into the world regularly. Isn’t that such a beautiful thing?
I suppose I should share my hopes with the book. And with that comes sharing another wave of realization that this thing is finally out: people telling me independently that they’re reading it, mentioning certain parts, and asking certain questions. I love it. I love that it’s provoking thought and bringing joy and interest. One of my friends who I wasn’t even sure would read it (which is completely fine, a lot of people simply aren’t readers) read almost the entire thing (46 out of 53 chapters) in a single sitting. For reference, it’s 310 pages. I don’t even think I’ve read it in a single sitting. It was awesome to hear.
The reviews so far have also been lovely and I am greatly appreciative of people’s kind words. I think another wave of realization will be my first hate comment, or one-star review or something. Though hopefully that never comes because my art is special and immune to critique, surely.
Kidding. Art provokes thought and conversation/debate and much too many other things to list here.
Hats off if you’re reading this.
Love and luck,
H
