Heartbreak Expansion Pack (2023)
My most recently released project, Heartbreak Expansion Pack, covers light and carefree topics such as the waves of veiled angst, deflection, and longing that crash within the ocean of heartbreak.
Despite the not-so-cheerful lyrics, this was very fun to make. The arrangements are more dancey than they’ve ever been with “Speculation Gets You Nowhere” and “I’m Afraid It’ll Always Be You” (which I still attest would be great on Dance Dance Revolution), I messed with sampling for the first time, and there’s a fully live performance, “Talking to the Moon,” where I’m singing and playing piano.
This was also my first project that was fully written and recorded in the same place, my home studio in Southern California.
Soak City (2022)
A comedy rap single about the greatest water park of all time. Some have called it “the song of the summer.” What else can I say?
Self-Mastered (2021)
My first professionally released, entirely self-made project. It’s mostly a story of perseverance and involves modern genres, delving primarily into synth pop.
I made most of the music for “Come Tumbling Down” in 2018, literally titling the project “i dont know yet” in Logic. “Keep Ridin’” was also an instrumental I had made and had yet to add lyrics to.
Some of this was done at home in Anaheim, some in college in Arizona, and I finished it in Oregon, where the cover was also shot.
Giraffes Are People Too (2020)
Giraffes Are People Too is my debut album. The recording and producing were done at Harmony Studios in Anaheim, along with studio musicians supplying drums, bass, electric guitar, and cello. I sang and played piano, trombone, melodica, ukulele, and acoustic guitar. The album covers a wide range of genres: rock, acoustic pop, jazz, and r&b, and is a cohesive, story-driven project about rejection, infatuation, love, and loss.
I wrote the songs from about 2015 to 2017 and recorded the album during winter, spring, and summer breaks from college, which made it an extra lengthy process, but it was a very fulfilling time at home.
I also learned a tremendous amount about producing and recording technique through my time in the studio, which I have tried to carry with my through future projects.
Soundcloud (2014-2019)
These days i release my new music on Spotify/Apple Music etc., but this is a catalogue of my previous work from 2014-2019.
I posted my first song on Soundcloud on May 31, 2014: a song I had written called Escape, recorded on an earbud mic and GarageBand for iPhone. I loved every single thing about the process.
I learned about vocal parts in high school choir and extracurricular singing groups, and since the main instrument I had was my voice (and an admiration for Pitch Perfect) I began making acapella songs, mostly writing and arranging as I was recording: starting with a layer, listening for what would make sense as the next layer, then adding more and more until it was a full song section.
Over the years I bought my first mic, monitors, and a midi keyboard, and learned how to be a better producer.
As a whole, I hope this can inspire someone by showing my progress from the beginning of my music-making journey. Starting in early high school and going through college, it’s quite the ride—enjoy!
Musicals
A Fairly Odd Musical! (2022-2024)
I composed the music and lyrics for A Fairly Odd Musical! collaborating with theatre company SeeHumans. The show has had runs in Boston, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, and off Broadway in Times Square.
When you’re an average kid who no one understands, life can be tough… Unless you have fairy godparents to grant your every wish! Things are looking up for this average kid, until a business tycoon releases a new streaming service called Dimma+, filled with terrible reboots, remakes, spin-offs, and knock-offs. With the help of his fairies, he wishes for magic remotes that will allow them to travel into the TV and get all of the shows cancelled, in hopes of saving the entertainment industry (and more importantly, impressing the most popular girl in school). This musical celebrates the nostalgic cartoons that made our childhoods awesome, while poking fun at the way corporations ruin them today.
“With boppy melodies and funny lyrics, the music is also a strength.”
