Here’s the thing (we started out friends…). I’ve noticed that some other authors apply the same pressure to their actual novels to their other writing: author’s notes, blogs, what-have-you. They want to be charming and friendly and funny and intelligent and polished and all that.

I’m not really aiming for that here. I guess I’m aiming for…you know when you used to sit and write a creative paper for class? Maybe you have to write out a personal story that’s inspired from your life. No study-up on anything beforehand, just good ol’ long-term-memory recollection. Stream-of-consciousness type writing.

Yeah. This is more stream-of-consciousness stuff here. and I hope it stays that way. Anyway.

I’m immensely excited that this book is out. It’s my longest-term project ever, which—considering I wrote my first music album and spent the next few years recording it over winter and summer breaks from college, and then another few years on essentially another album writing for an original musical—is pretty good. Big run-on sentence there. But we press on. Anyway, over nine years were spent, on and off, writing this book, editing it, hiring an editor, submitting to agents, eventually self publishing, editing and formatting to make it spiffy for everyone who actually buys it. I love these characters and I love this story and I’m very happy it exists and that I’ve put something out into the world that I can be proud of.

The funny thing is that it’s not even out yet. It’s September 2nd as I’m writing this, and the current release date is September 15th, which hopefully works out. So maybe it’s too early to write this, but I felt like it, so here I am. Got a problem with that? Just kidding.

Anyway, as the writer of one single novel(!!), I can’t speak very generally or give solid advice on “how to write a book,” but I can tell you what it took for me: luck, dedication, the willingness to continue, and some more luck. And I’m talking just to finish this thing. But the one thing I do know is that you gotta do it for you. Or maybe you don’t, and that’s my motivation because I’m selfish.

I definitely owe anyone who’s reading this a few tidbits into the story if they’ve read this far, but I should avoid spoilers, and I’m not sure what kind of curiosity questions the average reader would even have, so…tricky. Maybe I’ll wait on that, actually. Sorry. Some fun facts about me instead:

  • I’m a big paperback guy, since I like to read before bed after I get off screens for the night. Also love the feel.
  • Today, I laid on the couch in a semi-irregular position and my neck has been hurting ever since. It is difficult not to feel the push and pull of time.
  • I’m a bit of an overthinker, and now that I’m writing in this whole stream-of consciousness type deal, I think that is more apparent than usual.
  • Haven’t even finished the website yet. Just chose a theme and poked around today.

My plans after IMAFOM’s release are to promote the heck out of it on Reels and TikTok, and also find out where else I should do that. But I got some ideas. It’ll be fun to be in that phase, I think. More fun than anxiously waiting for my proof to show up so I can confirm it’s good to go.

Thanks for making it this far. ‘Preciate you (“appreciate”.)

I wish you love and luck,

Hudson

High school, breaking the monotony, and a really cool third thing too.
